About Us
The history of Derby Express Couriers and where we are now
Derby Express Couriers
Derby Express Couriers is a family-run logistics business based in Derby, providing overnight parcel delivery, next-day pallet services, same-day, and international freight solutions to businesses across the East Midlands and beyond.
We’ve been doing this for over 35 years. We know our patch, we know our customers, and we take pride in getting it right.
Founded in 1990 by Nick Taylor, Derby Express was built on a straightforward principle — businesses in Derby deserve a courier service they can actually rely on. Over the following two decades, Nick grew the company into one of the region’s most trusted logistics providers, establishing long-standing customer relationships and becoming a core member of the APC Overnight network.
In 2012, the business was acquired by two of its longest-serving directors, Lorraine Sharp and Susan Hill, through a management buyout. Both had spent years helping to shape what Derby Express had become, and under their ownership the business continued to grow — expanding its services and strengthening its reputation across Derbyshire and the wider Midlands.
The business has since passed to the next generation — Tom and Lucy Sharp — who continue to lead Derby Express with the same values it was built on over three decades ago.
A member of leading Networks
As a proud member of APC Overnight — the UK’s largest independent parcel delivery network — and TPN (The Pallet Network), we offer our customers the best of both worlds: the reliability and reach of a national network, with the personal service and local knowledge that only a depot like ours can provide.
When you call Derby Express, you speak to someone here in Derby. No call centres. No automated systems. Just people who know the job and care about getting your delivery right.
